Checkpoint Charly

"Me and my mother lived in East Berlin at the time when the wall still existed and no one could escape from the city. Those who tried got shot or went to jail for a long time. Then my mother and the diplomat of Argentina became a couple. He was one of the very few people who could cross the border any time but if any of the East German guards at 'Checkpoint Charly' would have opened the trunk of his car they would have found my mom and me, a four year old boy, in there."
